(7th meeting of Council at ambassadorial level 2/25) (250) Brussels -- The seventh meeting of the NATO-Russia Permanent Joint Council at the ambassadorial level took place at NATO headquarters February 25. The ambassadors discussed the situation in Bosnia-Herzegovina, NATO-Russia cooperation in SFOR, Russia's individual Partnership program, and international terrorism. The Council will meet again March 25. Following is the text of the NATO-Russia Statement on the meeting: (Begin text) NATO Press Release 25 Feb. 1998 NATO-Russia Statement on the 25 February 1998 Permanent Joint Council Meeting at Ambassadorial Level The seventh meeting of the NATO-Russia Permanent Joint Council (PJC) at Ambassadorial level took place on Wednesday, 25 February, at NATO Headquarters. Ambassadors exchanged views on the situation in Bosnia and Herzegovina and discussed NATO-Russia cooperation in SFOR with a view to its continuation in the framework of the multinational force in Bosnia and Herzegovina following the end of SFOR's current mandate in June. NATO and Russia reviewed the progress on updating Russia's Individual Partnership Programme, were briefed about the meeting of military representatives under the auspices of the PJC on 19 February, and endorsed the work plan of the military representatives and Chiefs of Staff under the auspices of the PJC for 1998. The representatives of NATO and Russia also exchanged views on combatting international terrorism and agreed to continue exploring this subject. The next meeting of the Permanent Joint Council is scheduled for 25 March 1998. (End text)
