Washington -- The United States and North Korea are set to meet in
Geneva January 16-17 to discuss American concerns about North Korean
underground construction sites, according to a January 6 statement by
the Department of State.

NEXT ROUND OF U.S.-DPRK BILATERAL TALKS ON SUSPECT UNDERGROUND
CONSTRUCTION


Consultations on arrangements for the next round of U.S.-DPRK
discussions on the Kumchangni underground construction were completed
on January 5 in the New York channel. These discussions will resume in
Geneva, January 16-17. The United States is seeking steps by the DPRK
to satisfy fully our concerns about the site, including providing
access to it. Ambassador Charles Kartman, U.S. Special Envoy for the
Korean Peace Talks, will lead the U.S. delegation.
