U.S. DEPARTMENT OF STATE
DAILY PRESS BRIEFING
DPB # 77
TUESDAY, JUNE 5, 2001 12:45 P.M.
(ON THE RECORD UNLESS OTHERWISE NOTED)
Q: Have you seen reports of drought in North Korea, and is there any
consideration being given to resuming food aid to North Korea?
MR. BOUCHER: We have consistently provided food aid, including in
recent months, in response to requests from the World Food Program.
They generally contact donors when there are these situations, and I
can remember, six weeks ago I think, there was another announcement.
So I will get the latest and see if we are aware of any new requests,
and obviously the United States has consistently tried to be of help to
the humanitarian needs in North Korea.
