ABOUT INDIA'S NUCLEAR TESTS AND POSSIBLE FUTURE TESTING BY
PAKISTAN.

  /// AKAYEV ACT IN RUSSIAN THEN UNDER ENGLISH TRANSLATION ///

         I AM SURE THAT THE NUCLEAR RACE IN INDIA WILL HAVE THE
         MOST NEGATIVE IMPACT ON THE PROCESS OF STABILITY AND
         SECURITY IN ALL OF ASIA.

                         /// END ACT ///

DURING AN INTERVIEW WITH VOA IN WHAT IS KNOWN AS THE KYRGYZ WHITE
HOUSE PRESIDENT, AKAYEV SAID HE WANTS ALL THE NATIONS IN THIS
REGION TO SIGN TREATIES AGAINST NUCLEAR TESTING AND
PROLIFERATION.

  /// AKAYEV ACT IN RUSSIAN THEN UNDER ENGLISH TRANSLATION ///

         AS YOU KNOW KYRGYZSTAN AFTER HAVING RECEIVED ITS
         INDEPENDENCE AND BECOMING A SELF-SUFFICIENT STATE WAS
         ONE OF THE FIRST NEWLY INDEPENDENT STATES TO SIGN AN
         AGREEMENT ON NON-PROLIFERATION OF NUCLEAR ARMS AND AN
         AGREEMENT ON THE COMPREHENSIVE BAN ON NUCLEAR TESTS.

                         /// END ACT ///

IN RECENT YEARS PRESIDENT AKAYEV SAYS HE HAS BEEN PROMOTING THE
IDEA OF TURNING CENTRAL ASIA INTO A NUCLEAR FREE ZONE.

  /// AKAYEV ACT IN RUSSIAN THEN UNDER ENGLISH TRANSLATION ///

         THIS IS OUR DREAM THIS IS OUR WISH AND WE WILL MAKE A
         MAXIMUM EFFORT IN ORDER TO ACHIEVE THIS GOAL. THIS IS A
         GOAL ALL FIVE CENTRAL ASIAN NATIONS AGREE WITH, AS WELL
         AS THE ENTIRE CLUB OF NUCLEAR POWERS PLUS THE UNITED
         NATIONS. IT IS FOR THIS REASON THIS SUMMER WE WILL HOLD
         THE FIRST MEETING OF THE REPRESENTATIVES OF ALL THESE
         COUNTRIES AND THE EXPERTS FROM THEM.

                         /// END ACT ///

PRESIDENT AKAYEV SAYS, NEXT MONTH IN BISHKEK, THERE WILL BE A
MEETING OF FIVE NUCLEAR POWERS, THE FIVE NEWLY INDEPENDENT
CENTRAL ASIAN COUNTRIES AND THE UNITED NATIONS TO PROMOTE A
NUCLEAR FREE ZONE IN CENTRAL ASIA. PRESIDENT AKAYEV SAYS INDIA'S
NUCLEAR TESTS WILL GIVE THIS INITIATIVE MORE WEIGHT AND MAKE NEXT
MONTH'S MEETING MORE IMPORTANT.(SIGNED)
