TV Report on Alleged Russian and Iranian Missile Deal

Jerusalem Channel 2 Television Network, 10 February 1997

[FBIS Translated Text] In his meetings with President
Bill Clinton in Washington, the prime minister will raise
new information obtained by Israel whereby Russian arms
developers have been working in cooperation with Iran on the
development of a ballistic missile with a range of 1,400 km.
Our political correspondent 'Imanu'el Rosen notes that
according to a Defense News report published this evening
Brigadier General 'Amos Gil'ad, head of the Intelligence
Branch research division, presented this information to the
Americans during a secret visit to Washington about two
weeks ago. Ambassador Eliyahu Ben-Elisar presented the
information to Vice President Al Gore, who promised that he
would personally bring it up with Russian Prime Minister
Viktor Chernomyrdin.
Responding to this report, the prime minister's media
adviser said: I cannot comment on the matter.
