Events at Operation Northern Watch

INCIRLIK AIR BASE, TURKEY -- At approximately 12:30 p.m. local time, January 28, the Commander of the 39th Wing, Incirlik Air Base, Turkey initiated standard force protection procedures and put U.S. forces at the base into protective gear. This action was  based on reports of a possible ballistic missile launch from northern Iraq. Once it was determined that there had not been a missile launch, the command announced ‘all clear’ and returned to normal operations.

Coalition forces assigned to Operation Northern Watch (ONW) also monitored two Iraqi aircraft violations of the northern no-fly zone earlier this morning.

At approximately 3:45p.m. Iraqi time, while conducting routine enforcement of the Northern no-fly zone, two F-15Es observed fire by an anti-aircraft artillery site located north of Mosul. In self-defense, the two F-15Es dropped a total of three GBU-12s on the anti-aircraft artillery site.  Damage is currently being assessed.

Coalition forces assigned to Operation Northern Watch (ONW) continue to enforce the northern no-fly zone.
