Coalition aircraft respond to continued violations

MACDILL AIR FORCE BASE, Fla. (AFPN) -- Coalition aircraft struck two targets in Iraq at about 7:30 a.m. EDT April 15 in response to violations of the southern no-fly zone by Iraq aircraft earlier that morning. This incident brings the number of Iraqi provocations in the no-fly zones since the end of Operation Desert Fox to more than 160.

U.S. Air Force F-16s and British Royal Air Force GR-1s used precision-guided munitions to strike a military radar site near Tallil and an antiaircraft artillery site near Ash Shuaybah. Tallil is about 200 miles southeast of Baghdad, and Ash Shuaybah is about 285 miles southeast of Baghdad.

Damage assessment from the strike is ongoing, and all aircraft involved returned safely to their bases.
