Iraq: $29 Million For The Iraqi Opposition

QUESTION: What is the status of the additional $29 million grant for
the INC?

ANSWER: The Foreign Operations Legislation passed in 2000 states that
"not less than $25 million shall be made available for programs
benefiting the people of Iraq."

The Iraqi National Congress has presented us with some preliminary
proposals to continue and enhance ongoing humanitarian, public
information, and war crimes campaigns.

We continue to discuss proposals for spending this money with the Iraqi
National Congress and other grantees with ongoing activities in these
areas.
