PRIME MINISTER MR.MUHAMMAD NAWAZ SHARIF'S INTERVIEW WITH W.T.N LONDON WILL BE TELECAST AFTER KHABARNAMA TONIGHT.

THE PRIME MINISTER MR.MOHAMMAD NAWAZ SHARIF HAS REITERATED THAT PAKISTAN POSSESSES NUCLEAR CAPABILITY AND REAFFIRMED THE PLEDGE NOT TO COMPROMISE ON NATIONAL SECURITY AT ALL FOR ANY MONETARY GAINS.

THE SUMMIT OF THE G-8 COUNTRIES, THE WORLD'S LEADING ECONOMIES HAS ENDED IN BIRMINGHAM. THE BRITISH PRIME MINISTER TONY BLAIR ANNOUNCED THE DECISIONS TAKEN IN THE SUMMIT AT A NEWS CONFERENCE. THE SUMMIT WAS DOMINATED BY THE SITUATION ARISING OUT OF THE INDIAN NUCLEAR TESTS.

THE LEADERS STRONGLY CONDEMNED THE INDIAN NUCLEAR TESTS AND URGED INDIA TO SIGN COMPREHENSIVE TEST BAN TREATY AND URGED INDIAN NEIGHBOURS NOT TO CONDUCT NUCLEAR TESTS. HOWEVER, THE G-8 LEADERS DID NOT AGREE ON ANY CO-ORDINATOR PROGRAMME OF ANCTIONS AGAINST INDIA.

JAPANESE ECONOMIC SANCTIONS AGAINST INDIA AFTER ITS NUCLEAR TESTS ARE EXPECTED TO HAVE SERIOUS IMPACT ON THE INDIAN ECONOMY.

THIS HAS BEEN STATED BY THE JAPANESE AMBASSADOR TO NEW DELHI, MR. HIROSHI HIRABAYASHI WHO HAS BEEN RECALLED BY HIS GOVERNMENT BACK TO TOKYO AFTER INDIAN NUCLEAR TESTS. THE JAPANESE ENVOY SAID, THE SANCTIONS WOULD GRADUALLY BEGIN TO HAVE IMPACT.

NEW DELHI HAS RELEASED VARIOUS STILL AND VIDEO PHOTOGRAPHS OF THE SITE OF THE NUCLEAR TESTS CARRIED OUT THIS MONTH. THE FIVE TESTS CARRIED OUT BY INDIA, THREE ON THE 11TH AND TWO ON 13TH OF THIS MONTH HAVE PROVOKED A STORM OF OUTRAGE ACROSS WORLD. THE UNITED STATES, JAPAN AND SOME OTHER NATIONS HAVE IMPOSED ECONOMIC SANCTIONS ON NEW DELHI. THE INDIAN PRIME MINISTER YESTERDAY WAS QUOTED AS SAYING THAT NO M ORE TESTS WERE PLANNED. ON FRIDAY, HE SAID, INDIA HAD JOINED THE CLUB OF NUCLEAR WEAPONS STATES.

THE INDIA DEPARTMENT OF ATOMIC ENERGY AND THE DEFENCE RESEARCH AND DEVELOPMENT ORGANISATION HAVE SAID THAT THE TESTS HAVE ENHANCED INDIA'S CAPABILITY TO DESIGN NUCLEAR WEAPONS OF DIFFERENT APPLICATIONS AND DIFFERENT DELIVERY SYSTEMS.

THE FEDERAL MINISTER FOR INFORMATION AND MEDIA DEVELOPMENT MUSHAHID HUSSAIN SAYED HAD A 90-MINUTE MEETING IN KARACHI WITH THE BALOCHISTAN CHIEF MINISTER SARDAR AKHTAR MENGAL WHO IS ALSO LEADER OF THE BALOCHISTAN NATIONAL PARTY.

THE MEETINGS WERE PART OF THE INITIATIVE OF PRIME MINISTER MR. MOHAMMAD NAWAZ SHARIF'S GOVERNMENT TO CONSULT MAJOR POLITICAL LEADERS ON REGIONAL SITUATION ARISING OUT OF INDIAN NUCLEAR TESTS. HE ALSO MET WITH VETERAN POLITICIAN SARDAR ATTALULLAH MENGAL.

THE FEDERAL MINISTER ALSO HAD A 90-MINUTE MEETING WITH THE CHAIRPERSON OF THE PPP-SB, MS. GHINWA BHUTTO, IN KARACHI TODAY. THE MEETING WAS HELD IN A VERY CORDIAL AND FRIENDLY ATMOSPHERE. THE INFORMATION MINISTER BRIEFED MS. GHINWA BHUTTO ON THE GOVERNMENT'S POSITION WITH REGARD TO THE SITUATION ARISING OUT OF THE INDIA NUCLEAR BLASTS. MS. GHINWA BHUTTO GAVE HER PARTY'S PERSPECTIVE OF THE ISSUE AND SAID THAT THE GOVERNMENT SHOULD HAVE A CAREFULLY THOUGHT OUT AND CONSIDERED RESPONSE KEEPING IN VIEW ALL ASPECTS OF NATIONAL SECURITY. MR. MUSHAHID HUSSAIN ALSO CONVEYED GOOD WISHES OF PRIME MINISTER MOHAMMAD NAWAZ SHARIF TO MS. GHINWA BHUTTO. SHE ALSO SENT A MESSAGE OF GOODWILL TO THE PRIME MINISTER THROUGH THE FEDERAL INFORMATION MINISTER.

THE KASHMIRIS LIVING IN ENGLAND STAGED A PROTEST DEMONSTRATION CONDEMNING INDIA FOR CONDUCTING NUCLEAR TEST. THEY GATHERED IN FRONT OF THE CONFERENCE HALL IN BIRMINGHAM WHERE THE G-8 LEADERS HELD A SUMMIT.

THE LARGE GATHERING VOICED THEIR ANGER BY CHANTING ANTI-INDIA SLOGANS CALLING UPON BIG POWERS TO IMPOSE EFFECTIVE SANCTIONS AGAINST INDIA.

THEY URGED THE G-8 LEADERS TO HELP STOP THE HUMAN RIGHTS VIOLATIONS BEING PERPETRATED BY INDIAN FORCES IN OCCUPIED KASHMIR.

IN THE CONTINUING PROCESS OF CONSULTATIONS WITH THE NATIONAL LEADERS AND INTELLECTUALS BY THE GOVERNMENT ON THE INDIAN NUCLEAR TESTS, THE FEDERAL MINISTER FOR INFORMATION MR. MUSHAHID HUSSAIN HAD A MEETING WITH THE CHAIR-PERSON OF PPP(SHAHEED BHUTTO)MS. GHINVA BHUTTO IN KARACHI TODAY. THE FEDERAL MINISTER SPOKE ABOUT GOVERNMENT'S DESIRE TO HAVE A NATIONAL CONSENSUS ON THE SITUATION ARISING OUT OF THE INDIAN NUCLEAR TESTS BY TALKING TO THE NATIONAL LEADERS ON THE ISSUE. HE BRIEFED MS. GHINVA BHUTTO ON THE GOVERNMENT'S POSITION WITH REGARD TO THE SITUATION.

MS. GHINVA BHUTTO GAVE HER PARTY'S PERCEPTIVE IN THE MATTER AND SAID THE GOVERNMENT SHOULD HAVE A CAREFULLY THOUGHT OUT AND CONSIDERED RESPONSE KEEPING IN VIEW ALL ASPECTS OF NATIONAL SECURITY. MR. MUSHAHID HUSSAIN ALSO CONVEYED GOOD WISHES OF THE PRIME MINISTER MR.MOHAMMAD NAWAZ SHARIF TO MS. GHINVA BHUTTO. SHE ALSO SENT A MESSAGE OF GOODWILL TO THE PRIME MINISTER THROUGH THE FEDERAL MINISTER FOR INFORMATION. TH EMEETING WAS HELD IN A VERY CORDIAL AND FRIENDLY ATMOSPHERE THAT LASTED FOR MORE THAN AN HOUR.

ADDRESSING A PARTY WORKERS MEETING AT LAHORE THE PRIME MINISTER SAID WE ARE NOT WORRIED ON THE NUCLEAR TESTS CARRIED OUT BY INDIA RECENTLY BECAUSE PAKISTAN HAS THE SAME POTENTIAL TO CONDUCT THE NUCLEAR TESTS. HE ADDED WE CAN PROVE OUR NUCLEAR CAPABILITY WITHIN 12 TO 26 HOURS.

THE PRIME MINISTER HOWEVER SAID WE HAVE NOT TAKEN ANY DECISION IN HASTE AND WE ARE MONITORING THE SHARP WORLD REACTION TOWARDS INDIAN NUCLEAR EXPLOSIONS.

MR. MOHAMMAD NAWAZ SHARIF SAID WE ARE GRATEFUL TO ALLAH ALMIGHTY THAT THE GOVERNMENT IN PAKISTAN IS POLITICALLY STABLE AND SOUND, AND IS IN A POSITION TO TAKE DECISION IN THE LARGER AND SUPREME NATIONAL INTEREST.

HE SAID WE ARE STUDYING THE INTERNATIONAL SCENARIO CAREFULLY AND TAKING INTO ACCOUNT THE SITUATION JUDICIOUSLY ARISING AS A RESULT OF INDIAN NUCLEAR TESTS.

REFERRING TO INDIAN POLITICAL SCENE THE PRIME MINISTER SAID INDIA IN VIEW OF ITS POLITICAL INSTABILITY AND LEAN GOVERNMENT CONDUCTED NUCLEAR TESTS TO ESTABLISH SUPREMACY AND GAIN SOME POLITICAL GROUND IN THE NEST GENERAL ELECTIONS. MR. MOHAMMAD NAWAZ SHARIF SAID THE WORLD HAS ESTABLISHED CONTACTS WITH US FOR NOT CARRYING OUT NUCLEAR TEST.

HE SAID WE ARE ANALYSING WORLD REACTION AGAINST INDIA AND LOOKING TOWARDS RESTRICTIONS AND SANCTIONS IMPOSED ON INDIA AS A PENALTY. PAKISTAN WILL MEET THE SITUATION IN A MEASURED AND CALCULATED MANNER.
