THE TURKISH AMBASSADOR TO PAKISTAN MR. BAZKURT ARAN CALLED ON THE PRIME MINISTER MR.MOHAMMAD NAWAZ SHARIF IN ISLAMABAD TODAY AND DISCUSSED WITH HIM THE REGIONAL SITUATION EXPRESSING HIS COUNTRY'S COMPLETE SOLIDARITY WITH PAKISTAN.DURING THE MEETING THE PRIME MINISTER APPRISED OF THE SERIOUS SECURITY SITUATION WHICH HAS ARISEN DUE TO INDIAN NUCLEAR TESTS AND THE RECENT BELLIGERENT STATEMENTS MADE BY THE INDIAN LEADERS. HE SAID PAKISTAN HAS SO FAR SHOWN GREAT RESTRAINT IN THE FACE OF PROVOCATION.THE WORLD COMMUNITY, THE PRIME MINISTER ADDED MUST APPRECIATE ITS LEGITIMATE SECURITY CONCERNS. THE TURKISH AMBASSADOR AGREED WITH THE PRIME MINISTER THAT THE SITUATION IS GRAVE AND NEEDED FULL AND PROMPT ATTENTION OF THE WORLD COMMUNITY. HE HOPED THAT THE RELATIONS BETWEEN THE TWO COUNTRIES WOULD BE STRENGTHENED FURTHER IN THE YEARS AHEAD.

THE PRESIDENT MUHAMMAD RAFIQ TARAR HAS SAID THAT WHOLE NATION IS UNITED TO FOIL THE EVIL DESIGNS OF ENEMY. HE WAS ADDRESSING THE INAUGURAL SESSION OF THE SEMINAR ON "ROLE OF RADIO IN NATIONAL UNITY AND IDENTITY", HELD IN CONNECTION WITH RADIO PAKISTAN'S GOLDEN JUBILEE CEREMONY IN LAHORE TODAY. THE PRESIDENT SAID, THE NATION CAN FACE THE BIGGEST CHALLENGE AHEAD. THE PRESIDENT SAID THE PAKISTANI NATION HAVE THE SPLENDID TRADITIONS OF VALOUR AND BRAVERY AND EVERY CHILD KNOWS HOW TO SAFEGUARD THE COUNTRY'S INTEGRITY AND SELF-ESTEEM. HE SAID MASS COMMUNICATION INSTITUTIONS HAVE TO SURVIVE FOR NATIONAL COHESION AND UNITY AS WELL AS THEY HAVE TO STAND AS A BULWARK AGAINST FIERCE FOREIGN MEDIA ATTACKS. HE SAID, FOLLOWING THE LIFTING OF CONTROL ON PRINT MEDIA, THE ONUS OF PROMOTING NATIONAL INTEGRATION LIES WITH ELECTRONIC MEDIA. THE STRIKE OBSERVED ON THE CALL OF APHC, BROUGHT TO STANDSTILL THE DAILY CHORES BAZAARS, BUSINESS ESTABLISHMENTS, GOVERNMENT AND SEMI-GOVERNMENT OFFICES, EDUCATION INSTITUTIONS, BANKS AND COURTS REMAINING CLOSED AND TRANSPORT KEEPING OFF THE ROAD. RICH TRIBUTES WERE PAID TO SEVENTY PERSONS, MARTYRED WHEN THEY TROOPS HAD RESORTED TO FIRING ON THE FUNERAL OF MIRWAIZ MOLVI MOHAMMAD FAROOQ SHAHEED. A BIG MOURNING PROCESSION, LED BY MIRWAIZ UMAR FAROOQ WAS TAKEN OUT FROM MIRWAIZ MANZIL IN SRINAGAR. THE PROCESSION MARCHED TO MAZAR-E-SHUHADA WHERE IT TURNED INTO A PUBLIC MEETING WHICH WAS ADDRESSED BY THE CHAIRMAN OF APHC, SYED ALI GILANI, ITS FORMER CHAIRMAN, MIRWAIZ UMAR FAROOQ, MOHAMMAD YASEEN MALIK, PROFESSOR ABDUL GHANI BUTT AND MOLVI ABBAS ANSARI.

A SEMINAR ON INDIAN NUCLEAR EXPLOSIONS-98 AND ITS IMPLICATIONS, WAS HELD IN ISLAMABAD TODAY IN WHICH ACADEMICIANS, SCIENTISTS AND MILITARY EXPERTS TOOK PART. THE FORMER VICE CHIEF OF ARMY STAFF, RETIRED GENERAL K.M. ARIF, FORMER FOREIGN MINISTER, MR. ABUDS SATTAR AND CHAIRMAN, DEPARTMENT OF DEFENCE AND STRATEGIC STUDIES, QUAID-E-AZAM UNIVERSITY, DR. ZAFAR IQBAL CHEEMA GAVE PRESENTATION ON VARIOUS ASPECTS OF FIVE INDIAN NUCLEAR EXPLOSIONS ON 11TH AND 13TH OF THIS MONTH.
