Shamshad hopeful of constructive and productive 8th round of talks with Talbot
ISLAMABAD, Feb 2 (APP) :Foreign Secretary Shamshad Ahmed on Monday expressed cautious optimism on beginning, "a very constructive and productive," eighth round of talks with US Deputy Secretary of State, Strobe Talbott which opens between the two sides here on Tuesday. Talbott flew into Federal Capital from New Delhi in a special plane to begin his 2-day visit. He is accompanied by US Assistant Secretary of State Karl Inderfurth and Vice Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff General Ralston. The agenda of talks is not confined to non- proliferation issues alone but covers the ,"far-deeper issues of peace and security at the heart of which lies the Kashmir problem," Shamshad told reporters at PAF base. Kashmir dispute, Shamshad said, is the ,"cause of impelling proliferation," in South Asia.
Strobe Talbott arrives to hold eighth round of talks on issues of peace and security
ISLAMABAD, Feb 2 (APP) :US Deputy Secretary of State Strobe Talbott arrived here Monday on a 2- day official visit to hold eighth round of talks with senior Pakistani officials on issues of peace, security and non-proliferation. He flew in a special plane and was accompanied by Assistant Secretary of State Karl Inderfurth and Vice Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff General Ralston. Talbott was received at PAF base by Foreign Secretary Shamshad Ahmed, Pakistan's Ambassador to Washington Riaz Khokhar, US Ambassador in Islamabad William Milam and other senior officials of Foreign Office. Strobe Talbott will hold formal talks at Foreign Office on the issues of peace and security and non-proliferation on Tuesday. Later he will call on Foreign Minister and speak at the Institute of Strategic Studies the same day. US Deputy Secretary of State will call on Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz at noon and discuss with him matters of mutual concern.
