18-Year-Old Missile Fired From Baykonur Test Range -- Military Praises Missile's Performance

MOSCOW, June 8 (ITAR-TASS) -- Russia's military space forces today launched from the Baykonur launch site an RS-18 missile which was manufactured at the Khrunichev plant in November 1976. The dummy warhead of the missile that had been combat ready for over eighteen years before it was fired from the Baykonur space centre at 16.45 Moscow time on Thursday hit the target in the Kamchatka testing range with high precision, sources in the Russian military space forces central headquarters told ITAR-TASS. Missile specialists say the results of the test testify to the missile's high reliability. They also say its performance was unique in all respects.
