Pacific Fleet Conducts First Ballistic Test Launch 28 Jun

Moscow ITAR-TASS 1 Jul 96

VLADIVOSTOK July 1 (Itar-Tass) -- The Russian Pacific fleet has successfully carried out its first simultaneous test launch of ballistic missiles from several nuclear submarines sailing in various parts of the ocean, a spokesman of the Pacific fleet command told Tass on Monday. The launches were made during staff exercises of the fleet on June 28 with the "aim of testing the actual combat readiness of the nuclear deterrence forces of the Russian Navy. Their results were recognised as successful", the spokesman said. "Such an exercise demands maximum precision and a high degree of skills from the personnel of nuclear submarines as the missiles were launched to a considerable distance which complicated the coordination of the whole operation", the spokesman added.
