MOSCOW LOSES CONTROL OF MILITARY SATELLITES AFTER FIRE. A
major fire at a ground relay station near Kaluga resulted in the loss of
contact with four military satellites, Lieutenant General Anatolii
Perminov, the commander of Russia's recently established Space Forces,
told RTR on 10 May. Once the fire is fully extinguished, he said,
"restoring permanent contact with these satellites will be technically
possible." At the same time, he added that "the entire satellite control
system is working normally." PG
