The Korean Government Lodges Stern Protest

The National Security Council made the following statement this afternoon on the naval clash in the Yellow Sea.

The Republic of Korea Government has lodged a stern protest with North Korea against the incursion on June 15 into an area south of the Northern Limit Line by North Korean war ships and the armed provocation.

North Korea's violation of the Northern Limit Line and armed provocation are grave acts which we will not be tolerate. If North Korea perpetrates such an act again, our military forces will respond against it with full force.

We urge North Korea to stop its reckless provocations immediately and resolve all problems peacefully through dialogue.

To help ease tension, the Government will continue to push its North Korea engagement policy consistently, based on firm security preparedness.
