The Secretary-General is deeply concerned about the potentially grave consequences of the decision announced by the Government of Iraq on 29 October concerning implementation of Security Council resolutions governing the elimination of Iraq's weapons of mass destruction.
In an effort to help resolve the situation, he has informed the Government of Iraq of his intention to dispatch to Baghdad a mission of three personal envoys -- Lakhdar Brahimi (Algeria), Emilio Cardenas (Argentina) and Gin Eliasson (Sweden).
It is envisaged that the envoys will depart for Baghdad on Monday, 3 November.
