Ali Vaez joined FAS in July of 2011 as a Fellow for Science and Technology and director of the Iran Project. He has more than a decade of experience in journalism. He was a foreign correspondent for Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty in Switzerland and has authored numerous articles and opinion pieces for both print and online media.

At FAS, Vaez directs the Iran project, focusing on Iran’s nuclear and missile programs, researching options for enhanced safeguards on Iran’s nuclear activities and advocating positive sum diplomacy in resolving the standoff between Iran and the West. At the biosecurity program, he manages the Innovative Outreach Project with the goal to educate scientists and the general public about the biosecurity risks of specific pathogens and commonly used model organisms in biological research.
