Games for Change, G4C, have been supporting the use of video games to affect knowledge and attidutes about social issues since before 2004. They have hosted an annual conference since 2005. See their press coverage here (many stories about how video games can be used for good).
Games Learning and Society, GLS, have been hosting an annual meeting since 2005, and specifically address the many ways games, MMOs and virtual environments can be used to teach.
Center for Technology in Teaching and Learning, at Rice university. Games in Science Education, was a workshop hosted in 2010 by Dr. Leslie Miller and has many useful resourses at the webpage.
Computers for Youth is a non profit organisation that provides computers to students who otherwise would not have them. Immune Attack1.0 is installed on each computer!
