DOROTHY B. PRESLAR

Dorothy Preslar directs the animal and zoonotic disease surveillance project and its operational program known as ILIAD (International Lookout for Infectious Animal Disease). She also is currently co-authoring a book with SIPRI on international technology transfers in a proliferation environment. Dorothy was a founding principal of the global disease reporting network known as ProMED-mail.

Before joining FAS in 1989, Dorothy was the president of Posit Ltd, which worked with new ventures on capital formation. Prior to that, she served as Manager of Special Communications for Textron, a Fortune 200 conglomerate; acting Administrative Vice President and Corporate Secretary of Scott Laboratories, a medical diagnostics manufacturer and research company; and a non-attorney tax and corporate specialist in two Washington law firms, Arent, Fox et al and Kirkland & Ellis.

Dorothy is a cum laude, Phi Beta Kappa graduate of Wake Forest University and has done graduate work in law and business at George Washington University, American University and Georgetown University. Her articles on emerging disease surveillance have appeared in U.S. Medicine and the International Journal of Sustainable Agriculture 1999 Action Report. She also has presented papers at forums sponsored by NATO and Cornell University.
