Arlington, VA: How useful are the nonprofit groups National Security Archives and the Federation of American Scientists' Secrecy & Government Project in trying to reform the currently ridiculous overclassification regime and in bringing to light documents that would otherwise never see the light of day, but which serve the public interest?
Vernon Loeb: Those groups are critical. They are the only ones fighting the good fight on declassification, which I happen to think is important for historians and taxpayers alike, and I think they do a great job in keeping the intelligence community honest and, to the extent possible, open.
