Abstract: This report describes a numerical method to calculate the flow of a compressible fluid in the presence of shocks. It is related to the method of von Neumann and Richtmyer and, to a lesser extent, to that of P. Lax. This method permits a number of variations which were compared by testing them on some analytically known one-dimensional flow patterns. The calculations were carried out on the Los Alamos "MANIAC".
