EchoStar

In December 1996 MCI won the last remaining DBS license, following the announcement of a planned merger with British Telecom. Soon thereafter News Corp. [an Australia-based company owned by Rupert Murdoch] sought to purchase a half share of EchoStar, with the BT-MCI DBS license transferring to Sky, the new company to be formed from the News Corp.-EchoStar combination.
