MSLS

Multi-Service Launch System (MSLS) is a new front end development under the Rocket System Launch Program (RLSP) utilizing minuteman boosters.

Mission

The MSLS can accomodate several minuteman combinations which would support a wide variety of mission requirements and launch sites such as a long-range strategic target. The primary mission of the up-coming launch will be to test the MSLS sub-orbital variant and some inherent orbital functions.

Description

  • Provides for ballistic re-entry experiments
  • Sandia National Laboratory (SNL) produced re-entry vehicle (RV) and penetration aid (penaid) deployment
  • Multiple configurations, modern modular air vehicle components, flexible weapon systems interfaces, reduced costs
  • Guidance, navigation, & control LN-100 inertial measurement unit (computer) GPS-aided
  • Telemetry & Instrumentation
  • Payloads up to 1,300 lbs
  • Uses retired MM II ICBM launch vehicles
