1. The 1st QTR 96 SSRG was held on 10 OCT 96 in the SIOD conference room, bldg 83. The following individuals attended the meeting:
COL Howard I. Harmatz SIOD Director
LTC John L. Houston Space Div Chief
LTC John Lisle DCST
LTC John Hultman DCSDOC
MAJ Tom Hite EELS BL
MAJ Alfred Knight FXXI/JV
CPT Steve Pierce Space Div
MR Steve Travis C4I
MR Wayne Gassaway C4I
MR Ben Hammond
TPIO
2. The primary focus for the meeting
was the support for development of a Space System Database File (SSDF). Comments
were generally supportive for the data file, however, there is some tweaking
that is required before full acceptance of the project. We also discussed
the location of the data file. The Space Division intends to use its homepage,
http://www-tradoc/dcscd/space.htm, to get the current status of systems out.
It is also convenient for all to have quick access to this information through
the use of the internet.
3. Discussion of the current status of Force XXI was presented by MAJ Knight. He presented a graphic of the color status of all areas for the event. No major problems to report with an overall status of amber. He also discussed that the Tactical Internet as the major focus for Force XXI. He also mentioned the DSSU-Dismounted Soldier System and closed with a discussion of the Warfighter Information Network (WIN) Structure.
4. The Final area of discussion was an overview of DTLOMS.
DOCTRINE: Mentioned FM 100-18 as only
published doctrine in space. Review on hold for TP 525-60; comments still
being accepted.
TRAINING: Much discussion on training
in space, particularly on how to integrate the use of annex N during Force
XXI. Currently not being looked at as requirement. Valid points were made
regarding annex N by COL Harmatz. Without annex N being required through
evaluation events such as BCTP, implementation of its use will probably not
occur. We must push the use of this annex through those agencies that have
the greatest pull to force implementation.
MATERIAL: Talked briefly on Future
Operational Capabilities (FOC's)/TP 525-66 how they help guide Science &
Technology in the area of space.
5. The meeting closed with a discussion on the frequency of the SSRG. There is agreement that the SSRG should be held on a quarterly basis with a theme or focus for each meeting. The next meeting is tentatively scheduled for Jan 9, 1997.
