Air University was chartered on 10 September by the Air Force Chief of Staff to conduct a space study, SPACECAST 2020, to forecast innovative technologies and systems for control and exploitation of space well into the next century. This study provides a golden opportunity for AFIT and the AU colleges at Maxwell AFB to provide the Chief with an innovative product which spotlights the potential for application of new space technologies in a national security context. AFIT's vision, leadership, and productivity will be instrumental to the success of this project. 2. AFIT has been given the responsibility to act as the study's "Technology Team." Our duties in this role include gathering and transmitting technical information and systems concepts for the AU study teams, and providing technical expertise for review of SPACECAST concept and technology applications. In the first phase of the study, we are soliciting abstracts from the military, academic, and commercial communities (Atch 1). Your inputs to this "data call" are highly encouraged, and can greatly assist in the success and relevance of this study. 3. Our full-time Technology Team, headed by Lt Col Gerry Hasen, will need the firm support of our faculty, staff, and students. In addition to direct computer system and administrative support requirements, his team will need your technical expertise on emerging technologies and innovative uses of space systems. Your utmost assistance in these areas is imperative to the project's success. 4.
