Fleet Numerical Meteorology Oceanography Center
FNMOC is one of two primary computer processing centers of the
Naval Oceanographic Command that operates global and
regional meteorological and oceanographic analysis and
forecast models. DMSP data is received by a subset of the
Data Reconstruction System equipment located at Site 29.
Domestic satellite communications links are demultiplexed
and the DMSP data stream is extracted, deinterleaved, and
decrypted before being transferred to the computing systems.
Using conventional and satellite environmental and image data,
FNMOC systems analyze and forecast atmospheric and oceanic
conditions. Analyses and forecasts are used to create
end-user products such as passive and active acoustic
propagation conditions and ballistic wind and density forecasts.
