- Protect United States’ territory and citizens from adversaries (conventional or unconventional attack)
- Deter strategic attack by air/missile, Prevent/defend against unconventional or terrorist attack
- Conduct/support counterproliferation programs
- Ensure force protection of CINC-assigned forces and otheroverseas DoD personnel (per MOU with DoS)
- Support and conduct consequence and response management with regards to Weapons of Mass Destruction (WMD)
- Provide training to local emergency responders
- Maintain military units (active and reserve) to serve as augmentation forces for WMD consequence management and to conduct training.
- Support FEMA (Federal Response Plan) in consequence management operations
