GLOBAL NETWORK MEMBERSHIP CALLS FOR PROTEST ACTIONS ON/BEFORE NEXT BMD TEST SET FOR JUNE 26 At the Washington DC meetings of the Global Network the membership called for groups worldwide to organize local protest actions on/before the next scheduled test of the BMD system. The Pentagon is planning the next test from Vandenberg AFB, CA. and Kwajalein Atoll in the Pacific on June 26. Already activists from around Vandenberg have pledged to organize such an event and also Global Network members in New York City and Colorado Springs (home of the U.S. Space Command) have said they will organize actions too. Global Network affiliates in England, around U.S. spy base Menwith Hill, are expected to participate as well. The June 26 BMD test will be watched by governments and media worldwide since the Pentagon is saying that this test will determine the direction they recommend to President Clinton to take in relation to the early deployment of BMD. Because of the enormous scrutiny the June 26 test will have it is an opportune time for those opposing to send a global message that we want to keep space for peace. Please discuss this request in your community and advise us if you intend to organize a protest on/before June 26 so that we can alert the international media to the whole array of protests planned. This is one of the most important actions to come this year. If allowed to go forward, the BMD system will kill any chances for nuclear disarmament. We hope to hear from you soon. In peace, Bruce K.
