PRESS RELEASE

1. The Angolan patriots have closely followed the visits to Angola by Brazil Minister for Foreign Affairs and to Portugal by Angola's Defence Minister. These visits were under the disguise of cooperation in the most diverse fields of social life. The reality is these were part of the effort to save an unpopular and corrupt regime from a certain collapse in Angola. "They were accords of military cooperation".

2. Angola is no longer and will never again become a colony of Portugal, much less of Brazil. After five centuries of Portugal colonization and the subsequent resistance struggles that followed, today the people of Angola present themselves as adult people and masters of their own destiny. They will never let themselves be impressed by gestures of "goodwill" backed up with accords about "brick-layers, carpenters, dress makers, soap operas" or even about the importation of "cod fish, lard and flagons of wine".

It would be good if the Portuguese Government took good care of its vines and the Brazilian Luis Filipe Lampreia looked at giving water and bread to the millions of poor Brazilians left to their fate in the shanty towns.

3. The Governments of Portugal and Brazil should take heed that UNITA and the millions of the people of Angola it represents, will never be intimidated by Portuguese and Brazilian mercenaries. As in the past, they will receive adequate treatment from the forces of the Generalised Popular Resistance.
