Vallejo CA
For over 150 years, Mare Island Naval Shipyard, located 30 miles north of San Francisco in Vallejo, served as an important US Navy shipyard, including responsibility for repairing nuclear submarines. In addition to these repair activities, Vallejo also served as an early homeport for nuclear attack submarines. In April 1996 the shipyard was one of the first large military bases in California to close.
