A. DESCRIPTION: THE AN/TPQ-36 RADAR SET IS A WEAPON LOCATING RADAR WHICH IS CAPABLE OF LOCATING MORTARS, SHORT RANGE ARTILLERY AND ROCKET WEAPONS, BY DETERMINING THE POINT OF ORIGIN AND PROJECTED IMPACT POINT. THE AN/TPQ-36 RADAR SET CONSISTS OF AN OPERATIONAL CONTROL GROUP HOUSED IN A S-250 SHELTER MOUNTED ON A 2 1/2 TON TRUCK WHICH TOWS THE ANTENNA-TRANSCEIVER GROUP TRAILER; THE MJQ-25 GENERATOR SYSTEM CONSISTING OF TWO 10KW, 400-HERTZ GENERATORS AND A POWER DISTRIBUTION BOX MOUNTED ON AN M103A3 TRAILER, TOWED BY A 2 1/2 TON CARGO TRUCK. B. CAPABILITIES: THE AN/TPQ-36 WEAPON LOCATING RADAR WILL DETECT AND DETERMINE THE POINT OF ORIGIN OF ENEMY MORTARS, SHORT-RANGE ARTY AND ROCKETS QUICKLY AND ACCURATELY ENOUGH FOR IMMEDIATE ENGAGEMENT BY FRIENDLY COUNTERFIRE FROM A MINIMUM RANGE OF 750 METERS TO A MAXIMUM RANGE OF 24 KILOMETERS. THE AUTOMATED SIGNAL PROCESSING AND ELEC- TRONIC BEAM STEERING ALLOWS THE SYSTEM TO CONTINUE TO DETECT AND LOCATE WEAPONS FIRING SIMULTANEOUSLY FROM MULTIPLE POSITIONS. THE SYSTEM WILL ALSO DETECT AND LOCATE FRIENDLY ARTY FOR THE PURPOSE OF REGISTRATION AND ADJUSTING FIRES. IT CAN ALSO BE EMPLACED AND READY FOR OPERATION WITHIN 20 MINUTES AND MARCH ORDERED WITHIN 10 MINUTES. C. EMPLOYMENT: THE AN/TPQ-36 RADAR SET IS HIGHLY MOBILE AND CAN BE DEPLOYED IN FORWARD COMBAT ZONES. D.
