Basis of Issue Plan - BOIP

A. DESCRIPTION: RADAR SET: AN/TPQ-36(V)8, LIN: Z52571, BOIP: E083AA, IS A SHORT AND MEDIUM RANGE MORTAR WEAPONS LOCATING SYSTEM USING PROJECTILE TRACKING. ITS ELECTRONICS UPGRADE IMPROVES THE OPERATIONS CONTROL GROUP (OCG) THROUGH THE INSTALLATION OF STATE-OF-THE-ART ELECTRONICS, AND COMMON HARDWARE/SOFTWARE IN A LIGHTWEIGHT MULTIPURPOSE SHELTER. B. CAPABILITIES: THE AN/TPQ-36(V)8 RADAR CAN LOCATE ENEMY POSITION, DETECT, VERIFY AND TRACK PROJECTILES IN FLIGHT FROM SINGLE OR MULTIPLE WEAPONS FIRING SIMULATANEOUSLY BY USING A COMBINATION OF RADAR AND COMPUTER CONTROLLED TECHNIQUES. PROVIDES: REDUCED EMPLOYMENT/DISPLACEMENT TIME, FASTER ACCESS TO DATA; ENHANCED PROGRAM MEMORY CAPABILITY AND DIGITAL MAP STORAGE; A NEW HIGH SPEED SIGNAL PROCESSOR ALLOWING INCREASED THROUGHPUT AND FASTER PROCESSING; REMOTE OPERATIONS UP TO 100 METERS FROM THE ANTENNA-TRANSCEIVER GROUP; ENHANCED PROBABILITY LOCATION/REDUCED FALSE TARGET REPORTS; IMPROVED WEAPON CLASSIFICATION AND INTEROPERABILITY CAPABILITIES. C. EMPLOYMENT: THE AN/TPQ-36(V)8 RADAR SET IS HIGHLY MOBILE AND CAN BE DEPLOYED IN FORWARD COMBAT ZONES IN SUPPORT OF THE FIELD ARTILLERY COUNTER-MORTAR TARGET ACQUISITION MISSION. D. BASIS OF ISSUE: THE AN/TPQ-36(V)8 IS A ONE FOR ONE REPLACEMENT FOR THE AN/TPQ-36(V)7 IN THE FOLLOWING UNITS: THREE PER HEAVY DIVISION TARGET ACQUISITION BATTERY; ONE PER FA BN (HSB); ONE PER LIGHT FA BN, AND ONE PER FA BN (SIB). E. POWER REQUIREMENTS: 10KW, 400HZ, 120/208 VOLTS AC. F. TRANSPORTATION REQUIREMENTS: THE AN/TPQ-36(V)8 IS TRANSPORTABLE BY ROAD, RAIL AND AIR TO INCLUDE THE CAPABILITY TO BE TRANSPORTED IN TWO SORTIES BY C-130 AND LARGER AIRCRAFT, AND HAVE DRIVE ON/OFF CAPABILITY. IT IS EXTERNALLY TRANSPORTABLE BY CH-47 HELICOPTER AND WHEN REMOVED FROM THE ASSISGNED VEHICLE, MISSION ESSENTIAL EQUIPMENT CAN BE EXTERNALLY TRANSPORTED BY UH60 HELICOPTER IN THREE LIFTS INCLUDING CREW. NORMALLY TRANSPORTED BY TWO HMMWV LIN T07679. ONE HMMWV LIN T61562 IS PROVIDED TO TRANSPORT INDIVIDUAL EQUIPMENT FOR CREW. G. PERSONNEL/MAINTENANCE IMPACTS: (1) OPERATOR: (2) 13R FIELD ARTILLERY FIREFINDER RADAR OPERATOR. (2) MAINTAINERS: (A) UNIT MAINTENANCE: 35M, 44B, 52D (B) DIRECT SUPPORT MAINTENANCE: 35M, 52D (C) GENERAL SUPPORT: 52D H. SPECIAL NOTES: (1) THIS SYSTEM IS APPROPRIATE TO BE INCLUDED IN AR 71-13. (2) THE EMPLOYMENT, TRANSPORTATION REQUIREMENTS AND POWER REQUIREMENTS ARE THE SAME AS THEY ARE FOR THE AN/TPQ-36(V)7.
