A. DESCRIPTION: THE INFANTRY FIGHTING VEHICLE (IFV) IS A FULLY TRACKED, LIGHTLY ARMORED VEHICLE WITH AN IMPROVED TOW SYSTEM (T2SS), AN IMPROVED HATCH INTERLOCK SYSTEM, AND NBC PROTECTION. THE TWO-MAN WEAPON STATION IS EQUIPPED WITH AN EXTERNALLY POWERED M242, 25MM GUN AS THE PRIMARY ARMAMENT.THE GUN IS AN INTEGRAL COMPONENT OF THE VEHICLE. THE GUN FIRES ARMOR PIERCING (AP), HIGH EXPLOSIVE (HE), AND TARGET PRACTICE (TP) AMMUNITION. THE TURRET ALSO HAS A 7.62MM COAX MG, A 2-TUBED ANTI-TANK MISSILE LAUNCHER (TOW-2), AND TWO FOUR-TUBE SMOKE GRENADE LAUNCHERS. THE M2A1 IMPROVES THE M2 THROUGH THE ADDITION OF THE TOW-2, A THREE-MAN, GAS PARTICULATE FILTER UNIT WITH VENTILATED FACEPIECES, IMPROVED HATCH WEAPONS INTERLOCK SYSTEM, RESTORAGE, AND OTHER MINOR PRODUCT IMPROVEMENTS APPLIED AS A BLOCK MODIFICATION. THIS ITEM IS NOT APPROPRIATE FOR INCLUSION IN AR 310-34. B. CAPABILITIES: THE IFV WILL PROVIDE CROSS-COUNTRY MOBILITY, VEHICULAR-MOUNTED FIREPOWER AND COMMUNICATION, AND PROTECTION FOR THE MECH INFANTRY SQUAD IN BOTH MOUNTED AND DISMOUNTED COMBAT. THE IFV IS PRIMARILY AN OFFENSIVE WEAPONS SYSTEM THAT ALLOWS THE MECH. INFANTRY THE ALTERNATIVE OF FIGHTING FROM A MOVING VEHICLE OR ON FOOT, WITH THE VEHICLE IN SUPPORT. THE IFV CAN OPERATE OVER A WIDE VARIETY OF TERRAIN AT A MAXIMUM SPEED OF 41 MPH. IT ALSO HAS A SWIMMING CAPABILITY. C. EMPLOYMENT: THE IFV WILL BE USED AS A TRANSPORT VEHICLE AND AS A FIGHTING VEHICLE FOR THE MECHANIZED INFANTRY. IT MAY OPERATE AS A MEMBER OF THE COMBINED ARMS TEAM OR INDEPENDENTLY. D. BASIS OF ISSUE: THE IFV WILL REPLACE THE M113 (D12087), USED AS INFANTRY SQUAD CARRIERS AND COMMAND AND CONTROL VEHICLES ON A ONE-FOR-ONE BASIS IN MECH INFANTRY UNITS. E. POWER REQUIREMENTS: NONE. F. TRANSPORTATION REQUIREMENTS: THE IFV IS C-141 AND C5A AIR TRANSPORTABLE. G. PERSONNEL/MAINTENANCE IMPACTS: (1) OPERATOR: (A) CREW SIZE/MOS: MOS 11M. (B) TRAINING REQUIREMENTS (MOS/GENERAL): FAMILIARIZATION FOR MOS 11M. (2) MAINTAINERS: (A) UNIT LEVEL MAINTENANCE: MOS 45T AND 63T. (B) IDS LEVEL MAINTENANCE: MOS 27E, 31V, 41C, 43M, 44B, 45K(M5), 52C, 63G, AND 63H(M5). (C) IGS LEVEL MAINTENANCE: MOS 44B, 44E, 63G, AND 63H. H. SPECIAL NOTES: IN ORDER TO ACCOMMODATE THE LIVING TOE DOCUMENTATION SYSTEM, SPECIFICALLY THE ICP PROCESS, LIN D12087 WILL NOT BE REFLECTED IN THE BOIP CONTINUATION SHEETS AS THE REPLACED ITEM (AS STATED IN D.
