The levels of doctrine are Marine Corps Doctrine Publications (MCDPs), Marine Corps Warfighting Publications (MCWPs), and Marine Corps Reference Publications (MCRPs).

Marine Corps Doctrine Publications (MCDPs)
Marine Corps Doctrine Publications (MCDPs) are higher order doctrine containing the philosophical underpinnings of the Marine Corps fundamental beliefs of warfighting will be published as MCDP's. When promulgated, MCDP's will supersede selected FMFM's.
Marine Corps Warfighting Publications (MCWPs)
Publications promulgated as Marine Corps Warfighting Publications (MCWPs) contain the tactics, techniques, and procedures utilized by the Marine Corps in the prosecution of war or other assigned missions. When promulgated, MCWP's will supersede selected FMFM's and OH's.

Messages to All Marines [ALMARs] are a vehicle by which the Commandant of the Marine Corps
conveys information to Marines of all ranks on subjects of current interest.
Commandant White Letters
The White Letter is a vehicle by which the Commandant of the Marine Corps
conveys thoughts or views to Marine Commanders on subjects of current interest. These letters are not intended to supplant or duplicate current Marine Corps directives. If the topic requires long term attention, it will become the subject of, or be incorporated in, an appropriate directive.
