Advanced Technologies

The Building Technologies team is committed improving the building community's understanding, acceptance and adoption of advanced building technologies.  These building systems and materials are key components to creating a national housing stock of safer, more affordable, more energy efficient and untimately more environmentally friendly homes.  All documents and publications are available in Adobe Acrobat PDF form and can be accessed by clicking on the document/publication title.


SIPs/CSIPs Demonstration Projects

Cementitious Structural Insulated Panels Demos.  This four-part report provides background on the SIP technologies currently available, analyzes the current state of codes for CSIPs and non-wood facing SIP products, includes a "how to" constructability guide for builders and consumers, and outlines testing options for SIP Products.  


Expanding the Scope and Market of SIP Technologies.  This report provides monitoring and analysis comparing construction activities,  costs, timeframe and energy efficiency of panelized houses in Turkey and the Gulf Coast.  Included are recommendations on the use of SIPs, future construction, and international cooperation. 
Houston.  The Rasbach House in Houston, Texas demonstrates the use of structural insulated panels as part of a safe, environmentally-friendly and cost efficient home.  This project is due to be completed in Summer 2009. 
Advanced Technology Briefings Best Practices in Action
Cool Roofs: A Big Deal.  This one-page tech brief defines cool roofs, explains how roof coolness is measured and outlines the role of cool roofs in offsetting carbon and reducing energy bills.
